Peace of Inspiration: Mr. Rogers

PEACE OF INSPIRATION: MR. ROGERS

Dear Friend in Peace,

Mr. Rogers believed honesty was essential with children and making them feel welcome, accepted, and loved mattered.

To this day, adults speak of Mr. Rogers with adoration:
“He listened to me.”
“He made me feel safe.”
“He made me feel important and loved.”

Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood was a half-hour educational children’s TV program that ran from 1968 – 2001 to an adoring audience of children and parents. He was an amazing soul. His special number was 143 because it represents the most important words to him: “I love you.”
I = 1 letter
LOVE = 4 letters
YOU = 3 letters
143 = I love you

While Fred is not here to guide us today through this time of national turmoil, we can be our own Mr. Rogers and turn our thoughts and words of worry, concern, and fear into powerful statements of loving kindness for ourselves and others.

Yes, our democracy is in a fragile state and speaking up for democracy and those being targeted and denied their civil rights is vital, but this does not mean that we need to become afraid or angry. It means we speak up AND we choose our words and thoughts carefully knowing they have power.

Our message, our reminder to ourselves, our nation and our world is simple: “We are people of peace, we love ourselves and we love others. We speak up for Liberty and Justice for all.”

Just like Mr. Rogers we can speak up for those who are afraid, who have been mistreated, who need help, and we can speak with words filled with compassion, kindness, and peace.
Important as the above is, it is not enough. It is ours to speak to ourselves with loving kindness, compassion, and hope. To be effective and remain peaceful, we must attend daily to our own serenity by speaking to ourselves with encouragement, hope, and loving kindness, by meditating,walking, chanting, being in Nature, and whatever else brings us back to our peaceful core within.

Power flows from PEACE
Breathe in serenity
Breathe out fear
Place hands on heart
Embrace silence
Allow all to be
Connect to all
Embrace all.
Breathe in serenity
Breathe out fear

Thank you for choosing peace in your thoughts, words, and actions.
Yours in peace and love always,
Donna
