PEACE THROUGH BLESSINGS
Dear Friend in Peace,
Worry, uncertainty, and fear are always available as part of the human condition, and they are extremely evident now. Given that they are incompatible with peace, it is ours to be as zealous in protecting the health of our peace as we are in protecting our places of shelter in times of storms.
Sounds simple, but how do we not only maintain a modicum of peace, but anchor ourselves in peace? We have talked about compassion, acceptance, connection, and several other paths to peace. Today we add another simple, powerful tool to our peace reservoir: that of blessings.
To begin, here's a sweet song some of you may remember:
"When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings"
- Irving Berlin
Counting Blessings can be done at any time we are disconnected from peace by fear, worry, or anger. Writing them down can be helpful so we have a visual record as a reminder of all the good in our lives. Counting blessings is fun too, and helps us stay focused on what truly matters: loving kindness, compassion, friendship, laughter, music, all of Mother Nature, and so on… Counting blessings helps us see, remember, and honor all the good in our lives and helps us ease back into the peace that we truly are.
We need not stop there, simply receiving blessings; as people of peace, we can step up and bestow blessings on others which will return to us in the form of peace.
In his inspiring book, The Gentle Art of Blessing, Pierre Pradervand, guides us through why we would want to bless others, what happens when we do, and how to bless.
Here is one of his blessings:
“On awakening, bless this day, for it is already full of
unseen good which your blessings will call forth,
for to bless is to acknowledge the unlimited good
that is embedded in the texture of the universe
and awaiting each and all.”
Dear friend in Peace, I bless you in your health, joy, and hope. I bless you in your relationship to Mother Earth, yourself, your friends, family and neighbors. I bless you in your clarity, compassion, love, and understanding. I bless you in your peace. May you pass on this blessing to all you meet.
Thank you for choosing peace in your thoughts, words, and actions.
Yours in peace and love always,
Donna
