I chose this photo because it helps me feel the truth of Juanita’s words: “I am blessed and grateful.” Looking at the water that night, I felt blessed and grateful indeed. May you as well.

PEACE OF MINDFULNESS
Dear Friend in Peace,
Last week we recognized the importance of choosing words that reflect the feelings and vibrations we wish to invite into our lives and realized the word openness feels better to our hearts than does non-judgmental. As people of peace, it is ours not only to choose our words purposefully, but to choose our thoughts mindfully as well.
Years ago, I met a beautiful soul named Juanita who happened to be dying from cancer. Whenever anyone asked her how she was, she always replied: “Blessed and grateful.” She meant it sincerely because she was alive and grateful for every moment of being alive. Her comment helped me understand the incredible power of our thoughts, of holding the vibration of what we want as opposed to holding the vibration of what we don’t want. Had she replied with a more typical response: “Fair to middling” or “Not as bad as yesterday,” all of us, including Juanita would not have felt any better. However, her wise and honest reply brightened her day and that of everyone she met.
The importance and the power of Juanita’s reply impacted me so deeply that those words became, and are, my automatic reply to “How are you?” Here’s the best part: the more I say them, the more I realize they are the truth for me. I truly am blessed, and I truly am grateful. It is a beautiful, powerful affirmation and reminder of the blessing of being alive. May we choose our thoughts to affirm and strengthen that which we hold dear. May our thoughts be peaceful, loving, and kind.
