PEACE OF CHOICE

Dear Friend in Peace,

Blessings can arrive in the most fascinating disguises. During a day of hearing about and trying to help with woes and sorrows everywhere I turned, (or so it seemed), plus experiencing challenges in accomplishing necessary tasks, I totally succumbed to the "ain't it awful" lament and was miserable! Fortunately, the distress of being unpeaceful no longer appeals to me as a prolonged state, so before long, I tired of the weight of such agony and chose peace over pouting and whining over what was already in the past.

While we may not be able to change the world around us by clicking our heels together or twitching our noses, we do have choices. We can choose to be loving. We can choose to be kind. We can choose to be compassionate with ourselves and others and we can choose to be peaceful. Yes, peace is a choice. While we may not have the choice of what happens, we always have the choice of how we respond. We have the choice to acknowledge the happening without allowing it to define who we are or how we will be. Isn't that fabulous? We literally get to choose peace! It's not a gift from on high. Peace is a choice we make. Sometimes it's easier than others and sometimes we may choose misery as I did this past week, but the wonderful truth is we can always choose again and choose to be peaceful while working to create a world of peace and loving kindness for all.

This had to be the photo to go with choosing Peace because of how I felt when I took it and how I feel now when I look at it. As you look at this scene, may you also exhale and let go. Then may you breathe in the softness, gentleness, and peace of our precious Mother Earth who helps us remember peace is always a choice... always available, always possible.

Choosing peace does not change the world instantly, but it does change us immediately. Choosing peace means we recognize that even though we don't control the world or the behavior of others, we are in charge of our own thoughts, words, actions, and peace.

Mary Oliver asks us in her poem, The Summer Day:

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?"

We reply:

CHOOSE PEACE
