Inner Wellspring of Peace

Thanks to my dear daughter Kirsten’s suggestion, I choose this photo of Blue Hole at Ichetucknee Springs State Park to represent our wellsprings of inner peace.

INNER WELLSPRING OF PEACE

Dear Friend in Peace,

How do we maintain our sanity, humanity, hope, and peace in a nation and a world that appear to be falling into chaos, cruelty, and greed? We want to be peaceful, but how?

Step one is to simply ration our input of news since fear is not peaceful. But you say, “I need to be an informed, active, citizen and stand up for democracy!” Yes, it is always ours as people of peace to speak up and stand up for liberty and justice for all, but first we need to be in our right minds: clear minds that can think, speak, and act to preserve, protect and promote the good of all. You will know the amount of exposure to news you need on any given day by how you feel. If you are not peaceful, you need to ration more. Once you feel peaceful, your words and actions will be more effective and powerful. Calm brings clarity.

Once we choose inner silence over distress, we can begin our work of creating and connecting to what will become a wellspring of peace within us.
First, we turn our entire attention on the inhale and exhale of our breath. We think and focus on nothing else. We allow ourselves to be calmed by our breath. Sound too simple to be possible? Too simple to be effective? Too simple to overcome the powerful noise of fear? Try it and discover for yourself the importance and power of simply being silent. No thoughts, judgements, worries… simply awareness. Be aware of breathing without defining it as long, short, raspy, etc. Simply recognize: “Breath is breathing.” Feel the rising and falling of your chest or the air entering your nose and leaving your nose. Tune in to what is happening in your body with each breath. No evaluation needed, simply observe: “Breathing in, breathing out…”

As you do this day after day, week after week, and month after month you will create a wellspring of peace within yourself that is always available. Always ready to bring you back home to peace in an instant, in a breath.

Let the breath of life itself bless you with the peace, tranquility, and calm that you seek. Send your love out to the world in these words:

Connected to peace am I
Connected to peace are you
From our wellspring
We come forward
speaking up
standing up
for
democracy, equality, and tranquility.

Thank you for choosing peace in your thoughts, words, and actions.

Yours in peace and love always,
Donna
