Meditation on Light

MEDITATION ON LIGHT BY DONNA DAY © 2022

Our Peace Nurturing Practice this week is Meditation on Light.

Whether it’s a candle glowing in the darkness, the light of sunrise, light filtering through leaves, or light dancing on water, light captures us in the present moment.  It brings us to the peace of now. The photo below is one of thousands I and others have been inspired to take while beguiled and mesmerized by a glorious golden sunrise. I am sharing it in the hope it will fill you, as it does me, with joy and peace.

I close my eyes and see our world bathed in this wondrous light.  That same light is available to you and me any time we are willing to stop and allow ourselves the inner quiet which is exactly what we will do in this meditation. Give yourself 10 minutes to settle into a quiet space, complete the meditation and allow it to settle into your heart and bones.  If you have housemates, including children, let them know what you are doing so they can honor your sacred silence and possibly join you.

When you are ready, click on the link that follows and begin the Meditation on Light.   Here is the link: Meditation on Light. When you finish the meditation, simply click the back button to return to this page.  I hope you will come back to this page any time you wish to Meditate on Light.

Reflections – I have been thinking about recording another meditation for a some time and was recently spurred by requests from you, dear Partners in Peace.  Creating a Meditation on Light spoke directly to my heart because light has always been my inspiration, hope and guide.  Connecting to Light has repeatedly helped me with physical challenges; rather than focus on the physical sensations, I simply chose to focus on, to meditate on Light, golden Light.  Aligning with Light is a powerful, peaceful practice and possible any time, anywhere.  I love it so much and wish to share it with you.

Ernie and I recently travelled to Okefenokee Swamp to stay in a remote location where the skies are dark enough to create a dramatic show at night and before dawn.  Ernie was more dedicated to the early morning viewing, but we both savored seeing the lights of stars and planets glisten and shine above us.  It was simply awesome!  Isn’t that interesting that we sought darkness not for darkness, but for helping us to better see, admire and rejoice in the light!  That’s also what we do when we meditate on Light.  We close our eyes to better see the Light!

As I have reflected on light and its place in my life, I realize how much I respond to the light around me.  When I lived in Northern Ontario, I got to know the challenges to our body rhythms, attitude, and well-being when living in a place with little sunshine.  I missed the sun. I missed the light.  I truly did not feel “right” with so little light!  Now that I am in Florida, I treasure the light.  The sunset fills me with a peace born of fulfillment; sunrise inspires hope of great good, of a new day in which I can choose to live as the compassion and peace I came to be.

It is my deep desire that this Meditation on Light will bring you home to peace.

Your turn to reflect – What feelings does light invoke in you?  Have you ever stared at a candle or fire?  If so, why?

Thank you for being a vital part of Peace on Earth by nurturing peace in your heart, in your life.  The more that you embody peace, the more peace there is.

Your comments and suggestions are welcomed.  (Click on the blue link below.)
