PEACE BORN OF COURAGE
Dear Friend in Peace,
May this story of a baby bird bring you home to Peace.
Ernie and I loved watching this sweet baby Horned Owl and its sibling (not shown here) in a nest high above us at a local Reserve. We used binoculars to see them clearly, especially their mesmerizing eyes. The more I watched these sweet little beings, the more I became aware of the profound courage necessary in order for them to take their first flight: a literal leap into the unknown from the safety and security of their nest. However would they find the courage?
While I did not see this little one take his first flight, I had seen a baby Frigatebird bird take her first flight and found myself needing courage to simply watch the process! Even as babies, Frigatebirds are large and incredibly clumsy on land. I remember holding my breath while observing that frightened baby Frigatebird take at least six running false starts before finally gathering the courage to literally jump off the cliff. Once she was airborne, I started breathing again and believe we both felt the joyous peace born of her courage.
Fear literally disappears once we have the courage to do whatever it is ours to do. Without fear constricting our thoughts, words, and actions, we are free to be and share the love and peace we came to be. Without fear, peace is here and now in every breath, thought, and action.
Courage to step out into thin air and do what they have not done before is essential to the winged beings who were born to fly. Courage is essential for us as well as we step into the unknown, step into a world in desperate need of peace, loving kindness, and justice. Just like the little Owls, we too can step forward into the unknown holding dear to our founding commitment as a nation to stand up for liberty, justice, and peace for all. Once we choose courage we are able to stand up, speak up, and act for the highest and best good of our neighbors, our communities, our nation, and our world. Our courage is necessary in order to help bring about a community, a nation, and a world in which there truly is liberty, justice, and peace for all. Best of all, our courage brings us home to peace.
Thank you for choosing peace in your thoughts, words and actions. I welcome, encourage and enjoy your comments and suggestions.
Yours in peace and love always,
Donna
